|
Dish Network offers the lowest price package at $30 including locals ($25
without locals). Their 120+ channel package is $40 with locals. Their 180+
channel package is $50 with locals and includes some movie channels. The
"Everything Pack" includes all 180+ regular channels plus 31+ movie channels
for $83.
Special promotions usually include free installation and free equipment when
you agree to subscribe for 12 months.
You pay$5/mo. for each additional receiver you use. So you would pay $5 extra
each month if you have 2 receivers.

Digitial Video Recorders (DVRs or PVRs)
|
Digital Video Recording is a great new technology that lets you view satellite
TV when and how you want. You can pause live TV (to answer the phone for
example), slow motion, rewind, fast-forward, skip through commercials on
recorded programs, record up to 100 hours of programming and more.
Dish Network DVR functions are integrated into the channel guide and remote
control, making it incredibly easy to use.

Digital Video Recorders were made popular by Tivo. DIRECTV® DVRs all use Tivo
technology which has some advantages over Dish Networks DVR systems.
DIRECTV's Tivo systems include a "Season Pass" feature which allows you to
automatically record every episode of your favorite shows, even if time slots
change.
Most Tivo systems allow you to record 2 shows at once if you run an extra line
to it.
DIRECTV® charges a $5 monthly service fee for Tivo, unless you have the $88
monthly package.

Customer Service & Warranties
|
Both Dish Network and DIRECTV® offer a standard 12 month equipment warranty and
24 hour customer service. They offer online services like viewing statements,
adding services and making payments. They also provide online user manuals and
installation guides. Dish Network's lease option costs a bit more over time but
gives you a lifetime warranty on all equipment.
A recent
JD Power study recently rated DIRECTV® and Dish Network higher in
customer satisfaction than all major cable companies. Either DIRECTV® or Dish
Network have been awarded the top service honors for past 5 years.
